Aesthetic and Experiential Investigations of Collage Structure in Experimental Music

This practice-based research project investigates collage as a research methodology in experimental music composition through the parallel creation of visual collages and an electroacoustic album. Emerging from free improvisation sessions recorded in summer 2025, the project seeks to translate the experiential complexity of improvisation—its simultaneity, relationality, and temporal layering—into a multimedia work integrating sound, visual collage, and video.

The project approaches composition not as linear narrative but as a dynamic network of relationships. Collage operates as a conceptual framework for understanding memory, time, and interpersonal relations as layered structures as well as an artistic outcome in the final multimedia album. Influenced by interdisciplinary research practices that employ collage as an analytic tool, this project adapts the method for creative and artistic inquiry.

Structured over twelve months, the research unfolds in three phases: material acquisition and technical development; practice-based composition integrating sonic and visual processes; and collective listening sessions in which participants create their own collages in response to the album.
